Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion, due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Connective tissue, also called fascia, surrounds the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. Points of restriction in the fascia can place a great deal of pressure on nerves and muscles causing chronic pain.
MFR is very effective addressing sciatica, TMJ, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee pain, back pain, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, tendonitis/osis, Achilles pain, Plantar Fasciitis, and more. MFR is also excellent after injuries, overuse, and for those who work long hours in the same position.
Deep Tissue
Deep Tissue Massage (DTM) focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue to restore normal function and tonicity, free adhesions and reduce scar tissue. Techniques are used to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. This type of work is ideal for athletes in training or recovering from an event.
DTM can be very effective in addressing sciatica, TMJ, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee pain, back, neck and shoulder pain, and other conditions that cause pain and interfere with normal function and quality of life.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy, also known as Neuromuscular Therapy, consists of alternating levels of concentrated pressure on the areas of muscle spasm. Pressure is applied with the fingers, knuckles, and/or elbow in ten to thirty second intervals to effectively alleviate the muscle spasm. Neuromuscular therapy works by relaxing the muscle in order to release stored lactic acid and encourage blood and oxygen circulation to the muscle.
Examples of conditions that benefit from TP include arthritis, carpal tunnel, chronic pain in the neck, back, knees, shoulders and low back, headaches, muscle spasms, postoperative pain, sciatica, TMJ pain, tendonitis/osis, and whiplash injuries.
Orthopedic Massage
Orthopedic Massage (OM) is a type of manual therapy that focuses on the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain, by working muscle attachments, using pin and stretch, and other range of motion techniques. In addition to treating specific injuries, OM is used to increase range of motion, decrease and manage pain, and restore normal body movement and function. It can also expedite recovery from an activity or competition, and alleviate post exercise soreness.
OM is excellent in treating conditions such as frozen shoulder, IT Band Syndrome, plantar fasciitis, neck pain, ankle sprains, tendonitis/osis, tension and migraine headaches, TMJ, and more.
Cranial Sacral Therapy
Cranial Sacral Therapy (also known as Craniosacral Therapy) is a gentle, noninvasive form of bodywork that addresses the bones of the head, spinal column and sacrum. The goal is to release compression in those areas which alleviates stress and pain. Cranial Sacral Therapy seeks to restore the natural position of the bones and can decrease stress from chronic injuries as well as provide relief from migraine headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ pain and more.
Cupping
The suction of pliable, silicone cups applied to the body releases soft tissue from underlying structures addressing areas of adhesion and fascial restriction more readily than tissue compression. Synovial fluid secretion is activated which reduces joint stiffness as well as stimulation of the circulatory system which flushes toxins, resupplies vital nutrients to tissue and promotes better metabolic functioning. This technique produces similar results to Myofascial Release Therapy, however it should be noted that cupping can leave visible dark circles present on the skin following treatment.
Gua Sha
Gua sha is the practice of using a tool to apply pressure and scrape the skin to relieve pain, tension, and to improve your circulation. Gua sha is intended to address stagnant energy, called chi, in the body that practitioners believe may be responsible for inflammation. Inflammation is the underlying cause of several conditions associated with chronic pain. Rubbing the skin’s surface is thought to help break up this energy, reduce inflammation, and promote healing, treat muscle pain, and break down scar tissue. It should be noted that this technique can leave visible redness and marking on the body which can last a couple days, due to the non-injurious process of breaking sub-cutaneous capillaries during scraping.
Kinesio Taping
Kinesio Taping is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion, as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio Taping is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.
